Dr. Roberta Lapucci’s research suggests Caravaggio employed photographic-like techniques long before photography’s invention, explaining the extraordinary precision, realism, and lack of preliminary sketches in his works. Dr. Lapucci, Conservation Professor and Department Head at Istituto Lorenzo de’ Medici in Florence, catalogued and conserved numerous Florentine artworks.

The experts argued that the Archimedes was largely painted by Caravaggio and completed by his student and friend Mario Minniti during Caravaggio’s stay in Syracuse. According to the researchers, collaborative completion of paintings was a practice frequently employed within Caravaggio’s circle between 1605 and 1610.

The privately owned painting had not previously been publicly exhibited. It was shown for the first time to a private audience during the scholarly symposium in Monaco. Co-organizer Katharina Rubin emphasized its value as one of the most fascinating newly rediscovered paintings connected with this historical period.

During the authentication process, the work underwent comprehensive testing, including X-ray and hyperspectral imaging, EDS paint analysis, infrared, ultraviolet, and XRF analysis, as well as digital microscopy.

Based on these results, Dr. Lapucci prepared a technical report and an art-historical analysis confirming Caravaggio’s authorship for the initial painted layers.

Dr. Alessandra Gregori provided additional confirmation and a valuation, while Professor Hassan Ugail of the University of Bradford conducted an AI deep learning algorithm analysis.

The findings and artistic context were presented by Dr. Lapucci, Dr. Fabio Scaletti, and Dr. Barbara Savina at the symposium, which was moderated by Dr. Gregori.

The 75-by-61-centimeter oil painting depicts Archimedes and features a compass and convex mirror, attributes associated with the Greek philosopher and mathematician.

Dr. Lapucci, author of „Caravaggio and Optics”, noted that concave and convex mirrors were used by Archimedes to defend Syracuse against Roman attacks and were also closely connected with Caravaggio’s naturalistic optical methods. She further explored the hypothesis that the artist employed an early form of the camera obscura.

Archimedes is closely associated with Syracuse, where Caravaggio, fleeing a death sentence for murder in 1608, found refuge with Minniti.

While there, Caravaggio met Vincenzo Mirabella, who was building a telescope associated with Galileo and who showed him archaeological findings near Archimedes’ tomb.

Dr. Lapucci noted this must have led to the creation of a portrait of Archimedes, a figure devoted to optics and closely associated with Syracuse.

Additionally, specialized radiographic (X-ray) examinations revealed an underlying image depicting the face of Medusa within the spherical object, alongside quartz particles characteristic of Caravaggio’s technique within the paint layer and hidden numerical markings beneath the surface, constituting a significant point of reference for comparative and technical research.

Her final assessment is that Caravaggio sketched and applied the first layers, and Minniti completed the work. This is evidenced by the very high quality of the final layer, which is lower than Caravaggio’s but significantly higher than that of Sicilian artists of the time.

Mein Schiff Flow officially named: three godmothers, one ship and a shared flow22.6.2026 11:44:17 CEST | Press Release

Hamburg/Trieste, 21 Jun 2026. The big moment had arrived: to the applause of thousands of guests on board, the champagne bottle was smashed against the bow of Mein Schiff Flow. Accompanied by a spectacular show and an elaborately staged ceremony, the second ship in the InTUItion class was officially welcomed into the Mein Schiff fleet. The naming ceremony marked a first in several respects: for the first time in the history of TUI Cruises, three women – Julia, Annabelle and Karin – jointly acted as godmothers to the new ship. Together, they represent the diversity of the guests and the many personal stories that connect people with the Mein Schiff fleet. For their grand entrance, the three godmothers wore couture dresses selected by designer Guido Maria Kretschmer. A naming ceremony day to celebrate the motto “Go with the Flow” From the afternoon onwards, Mein Schiff Flow was entirely in keeping with the motto of its naming ceremony, “Go with the Flow”. The ship was transformed into an

A decade after the Brexit referendum: Time for European pragmatism22.6.2026 08:14:50 CEST | Press Release

On June 23, 2016, British voters chose to leave the European Union, sending shockwaves across the continent. To mark the anniversary, the Bertelsmann Stiftung is publishing exclusive data tracking public opinion in the UK and the EU over the past ten years. The findings suggest that Brexit has neither triggered further EU fragmentation nor driven British and European public opinion permanently apart. Instead, they point to a shared preference for pragmatic cooperation.

Europe Needs Digital Independence in Networks and Rout-ers: SAFENet Launches15.6.2026 10:00:00 CEST | Press Release

Governments around the world are increasingly recognizing that technology supply chains pose a security risk to critical digital infrastructure. The EU has not yet done so. Its markets remain open to products from outside Europe that create strategic dependencies and entail major security risks. Moreover, one central component is often overlooked in discussions about digital and technological independence: the router. As the digital hub in homes and offices, more than 90 percent of all data flows through it. Four leading European manufacturers are therefore founding SAFENet, the Sovereignty Alliance for European Network Technology, and are calling for routers and network devices to be protected by policymakers just as rigorously as 5G networks.

FarmDroid Field Robot Featured in award-winning “Clarkson’s Farm”: Autonomous Seeding and Weeding Robot in the Spotlight on Prime Video Series11.6.2026 16:10:34 CEST | Press Release

Odense, Denmark, June 11, 2026 – The hit Prime Video series Clarkson’s Farm features the autonomous field robot FarmDroid FD20 in its latest episode, airing today. Operating on Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm, the solar-powered robot demonstrates how automation, precision seeding, and mechanical weeding can help farmers improve efficiency while supporting more sustainable crop production. Clarkson first discovered FarmDroid at LAMMA 2025 while looking for ways to reduce manual labour on the farm. He was impressed by the robot’s ability to carry out both seeding and weed control with exceptional precision. The FarmDroid FD20 autonomously performs seeding and mechanical weeding with GPS accuracy of up to eight millimetres. By recording the exact position of every seed, it can remove weeds between and within crop rows, reducing chemical use, protecting soil health, and lowering labour requirements. “Having our robot featured in an internationally successful series like Clarkson’s Farm
