Identity and theology in a unique conference
16.9.2026 09:23:44 CEST | Svenska kyrkan | Press Release
Transblessing is the world’s only online international conference for young Christian transgender people. At a time when many young transgender people testify to a daily life characterised by hate and harassment, the conference is one of few safe spaces to meet.

“If we are serious about the church being for everyone, we also need to offer safe spaces for trans people,” says Oliver Jähnke, project manager for the conference. “We know that this is not the case in all parishes and contexts. That is what makes this conference an important forum for discussing faith and theology based on trans people’s lives and experiences.”
The Church of Sweden is inviting people to attend Transblessing on 3–4 October. This is when participants from all over the world will gather for online lectures, panel discussions, services of worship and workshops for and led by transgender people.
“Every human being is created in God’s image and has the right to be met with respect and dignity,” says Bishop Mikael Mogren. “Transblessing expresses the church’s mission to create safe spaces where people can grow in faith, share experiences and find fellowship.”
Organisers:
The Church of Sweden, Västerås diocese, the Church of Sweden Youth, Sensus study association and EKHO – Christian Rainbow Movement
